2019 Lookbook - Centanni Style to Close Out the Decade

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

2019 was a stunning year for Centanni Tile and for design trends in general. Over the holiday season, we sent our annual recap to our Centanni Tile Insiders and wanted to post it here for posterity and anyone who might have missed it. We pair each major trend with one of our collections launched this year and as an added bonus, we've found some great Instagram brands and influencers that embody these trends that we'd like to introduce you to.

Issue 1

The lead-off issue was all about the return of grace and timeless style to men's fashion. In a word, the return of the Gentleman. Despite it looking at first like trend confined to sartorial creations, there are a surprising number of parallels with spacial design & material trends.

2019 saw a departure from the heavily rusticated or distressed materials in favour of more elegant materials that develop character over time as they are lovingly cared for. It says something about the prevailing mind-set that we really dig. Progress and innovation are fantastic but there's a return to valuing products and materials that take patience and care to fully develop into their best self. Our Nordik Stone Collection featured in this trend embodies this beautifully, recreating a vintage oceanic limestone.

From warm greys to taupes to buttery creams to classic terracotta tones of fired earth, we are seeing a new take on neutrals this year. Far from being vanilla and boring, a neutral look in home or fashion this year incorporates a cornucopia of tones, each layered on the other contrasting and complimenting to create a whole that is so much more than the sum of its parts. Our Memento Travertino Collection is a reboot on the timeless classic of vein-cut Italian travertine that is the perfect foundation for a layered neutral composition.

Complimentary Instagrammer: Pacman82 (Phil Cohen) is an art director and master of flat-lays.

As Maximalism rises, there is a marked growth in details and statement pieces. Whether in fashion or interiors, adding period-specific details in pattern, colour or materials adds depth to a look but also gives us or our clients a means of personal expression. Little details like an Indonesian batik print or bracelet stack featuring certain stones or woods says something about the person wearing it. One of the oldest and most elegant ways to add pattern and kit-out a space in tile is using small format wall tile with their edge-profile finishing trims like quarter-rounds. Our Vintage Collection is a modular, multi-format collection of classic Spanish azulejos with a full compliment of trims for your space.

Complimentary Instagrammer: Montbes, a Sweden-based luxury lifestyle feed featuring vintage time-pieces, bracelet stacks and style.

You understand the crucial difference between 'basics' and 'essentials' - the rest of the world is starting to wake up to that realization. Just because something is simple and we use it every day, doesn't mean we should select these goods with any less discernment or care than we do our flashier things. In fact, our opinion is that those staples are even more important! You can choose to throw on a pair of jeans and white t-shirt or be enveloped by them and look, and feel, like a million bucks in your Sunday comfies. Our White-XL Collection is the start of doing just that for our assortment. We have taken the time to find the most perfect multi-format white wall tile in gloss and matte for you.

Complimentary Instagrammer: Cuts Clothing might make the worlds most perfect Color-block t-shirt.

Well, that wraps up our first issue of the 2019 Style Guide. Check back soon for issue 2 and other fantastic content as we share our vision for 2020.
